media nine     statement
This project was designed with two things in mind: my old story and the way media items are interpreted. There are many instances of diversity throughout my life that have often been overlooked and I used this opportunity to reflect on some of them. I made an attempt to use imagery from popular movies to represent different aspects of diversity and the ways they may manifest in our lives, while refraining from making any direct comments on the content of the images themselves. Stereotypes are prevalent in media and their intentions and credibility should be called into question, but my intent was to leverage the stereotypes (whether accurate or not) to demonstrate how diversity is an integral part of our society. My last image represents my new story in light of everything I have learned this term. I am the awkward, fumbling, nervous, and embarrassed trombone player (and I do play trombone) up in front of an audience with no idea what I am doing. But I'm still ready to try.
