When I moved to Vancouver I didn't really live in Vancouver. I was horribly unprepared for my move across the country, and with no definite action plan on where and how I would live, I simply found a half-decent place near the Skytrain. I ended up living in Burnaby---Metrotown specifically---where there is an enormous East Asian population. To say I was unprepared for the culture shock would be an understatement. I grew up in Hamilton, a very diverse yet Caucasian city, and this was like nothing I had ever experienced before. Suddenly there were language and cultural barriers that I could not even image how to navigate. It seemed impossible to make friends and so I took up jogging at the park to pass the time. It was a long nine months until I moved further into the city.
