As early as I can remember, all of the kids at school fell into categories. Your gender, athleticism, and intellect seemingly defined you as a person in those formative years, and an early understanding that athletic people weren't smart, and vice versa, started to form. Our brain innately classifies information, though sometimes we need to be conscious of how we are doing so as it might not be correct, or could be perceived as microaggressions towards groups. Stereotypes can exist even in the absence of cultural identity, and social stereotypes are especially prevalent by high school. In The Breakfast Club the characters are portrayed as the outcast, the good girl, the jock, the nerd, and the loner, without any reference to race. These roles are frequently reused in films and TV in order to have viewers identify with characters.
