When we did this activity in class I thought it was really corny, but I have since changed my mind a little. Dropping small math questions into a narrative activity is a good way to keep the audience's attention and it always provided a good laugh. While some groups planned out exactly which questions they would use and how they would incorporate them, others seemed more spontaneous. The biggest advantage of this activity is that students have the opportunity to act as teachers and ask questions of their audience. I think, perhaps somewhat selfishly, that this could help students build empathy with the teacher as they might encounter a room full of blank stares from time to time!
