The simplicity of the activity betrayed the level of skills required to pull it off. While moving in unison sounded easy, it took a lot of practice to learn each other's motions and be able to do them in sequence. I can see this activity being beneficial as an introduction to choreography as students learn to move together and gain practice leading group movements. Students also benefit from the opportunity to act as teachers and leaders in a small group setting. The most challenging part of this activity was using our four motions to create a narrative. Our topic was climate change and our motions were designed to tell of rising sea levels, so our actions built in energy and from low to high levels. These additional elements made the task a lot to focus on at one time, particularly for students that were newer to dance as an art form.
